In some of these examples I hope that it is clear that the initial settlement offer was significantly unfair and much less than the Oregon jury's verdict after I went to trial on behalf of my client and won a fair settlement amount.
These examples also illustrate that it is important to hire a Portland personal injury lawyer who is a skilled and experienced trial lawyer with a record of being effective at trial and getting the lawyer's client a fair settlement amount.
Trial is not always necessary, but an accomplished trial lawyer will have a reputation with the insurance companies and is more likely to be able to negotiate a fair settlement without the need to go to a trial because it is often enough that your lawyer be known as an effective trial lawyer and you will get a better initial offer from the insurance companies.
I recently tried five separate cases which are good examples of why trial is sometimes necessary. Before trial, the offers of these five cases totaled approximately $181,500. At trial, the juries awarded a total of over $1,715,500. If my clients had hired a lawyer who does not try cases, they would have lost a combined total of around $1,534,000. Most Oregon personal injury lawyers rarely, if ever, try cases. I believe that these attorneys do a great disservice to their clients and cost their clients millions of dollars by settling cases that should have gone to trial.
